Bjarte Eike studied violin at the Grieg Academy in Bergen and baroque violin with Richard Gwilt in London, where he was awarded distinction. He is now active as a freelance violinist and concertmaster all over Scandinavia in ensembles such as Concerto Copenhagen, Baroque Fever, Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, Bergen Barokk and other groups in Copenhagen, Malmö, Göteborg and Oslo. He also tours and records with New Dutch Academy, Arte dei Suonatori and the jazz-ensemble Magnetic North (ECM). He teaches baroque violin at the Grieg Academy in Bergen.
Bjarte has recently been working closely with the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra, in concerts of Italian and Italian-inspired music. His latest concerts with the Orchestra, in December 2004, was enthusiastically received by both audience and the press; Norway's Dagbladet described the concerts as 'inspired music-making ... the concerto from [Vivaldi's] opus 4 [with Eike as soloist] lit up like fire in dry grass'. We look forward to an exciting collaboration between Bjarte Eike and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra in the future.
